Three Years On: Russia’s Unlawful and Immoral War Against Ukraine
People have asked me why so many parliamentarians talk about foreign conflicts when there's so much going on at home. And I agree that Australians are facing some significant pressures when it comes to Labor's cost-of-living, healthcare, and national security crises.
But this work matters because what you tolerate on the global stage you open the door to at home. We cannot tolerate the malicious foreign interference, espionage, violence, or terror perpetrated against democracies, as we have seen in Russia's unlawful and immoral war against Ukraine.
Today, members from across the political divide joined with Vasyl, Ambassador of Ukraine in Australia and the representatives of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, in marking three years of the courageous resistance against Putin in his vicious assault on the people of Ukraine.
From the get-go, Australia has stood among those freedom-loving nations in solidarity with our democratic partners in Ukraine.
At today's event, we listened to powerful, firsthand accounts from the frontline of conflict, with harrowing survival stories and testimonies of sacrifice and hope. May our nation always stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our democratic partners, wherever they may be.
