Genetic Discrimination Made Possible as Albanese Abandons Promise - Despite Bipartisan Support for Change
Imagine getting genetic testing to identify potential health risks, only for an insurance company to use that data to drive up your premiums - or refuse you coverage.
Despite support from the Coalition, Anthony Albanese has abandoned his promise to protect Australians from genetic discrimination.
As Shadow Health Minister, Senator Anne Ruston put so well, "This is a failure that has life-altering consequences for Australians who need genetic testing but fear discrimination from insurers."
And as Shadow Assistant Treasurer, Luke Howarth said, "This is an egregious example of the Albanese Government’s focus on announcements and grandstanding, rather than the follow-through."
Australians deserve a fair go, but once again Anthony Albanese has proven to be utterly beholden to the big end of town. And, once again, Australians are paying the price.
