Wallace and Australia Zoo Launch 2024 Sunshine Coast Veterans Day

Veterans and a guest are invited to take advantage of a FREE ticket to Australia Zoo to celebrate and commemorate Sunshine Coast Veterans Day on Monday, 30 September 2024.

Now in its seventh year, the Sunshine Coast Veterans Day event will see ex-service organisations and support services come together for a market day style welcome for current and former servicemen and women.

Founder and Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, said he was honoured to partner with the Irwin family and Australia Zoo, acknowledging their generosity and commitment the shared endeavour of commemorating and celebrating the men and women of the Australian Defence Force.

“Australia’s veterans and defence personnel have given so much to protect Australians and secure our future – work which has become all the more critical in the face of growing tension and conflict,” Mr Wallace said.

“Our community, in particular, is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the country, and some of the best veteran support services as well. Sunshine Coast Veterans Day is an opportunity to connect those organisations with ex-service personnel, and to honour them for their service,” Mr Wallace continued.

Robert Irwin, who is a conservationist, photographer and TV personality – and Beerwah local – thanked veterans of the ADF for their service and encouraged them to get along to the seventh Sunshine Coast Veterans Day event.

“Australia Zoo wants to say thank you to all of our veterans and we encourage them to all come along and enjoy our wildlife demonstrations and experience conservation through exciting education,” said Robert.

For free admission to Australia Zoo on 30 September, veterans will need to present their Veteran Lapel Pin, White or Gold Veteran Card, or any other proof of service at the gate. Normal open and close times apply. Veterans who do not have any proof of service can contact their local RSL sub-branch or Mr Wallace’s office on (07) 5493 5556 or andrew.wallace.mp@aph.gov.au for assistance.
